LA.com acquired by L.A. Times parent company Tribune Publishing Co.

la.com los angeles domain

Tribune Publishing Company(TPUB) has reportedly acquired the domain LA.com.

Currently a landing page offers the opportunity to sign-up via email to be notified of the new LA.com launch. Additionally you can enter you mobile phone number to “win your personal @LA.com email address”.

Google results for the domain reveal the skeleton of the previous LA.com website. All of the links in the search results go 404. (Why not bother redirecting? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

I cannot suggest what the site previously offered visitors. I’ve lived in Los Angeles for over 15 years and can say I’ve never been to that website. However, I would suggest that this sale likely made the domains previous owners enough money to be able to actually afford to live here. (57% of the population in LA can’t afford it)

DomainNameWire reported today on the apparent sale. No details regarding the sale were available.

A city no worse than others, a city rich and vigorous and full of pride, a city lost and beaten and full of emptiness. It all depends on where you sit and what your own private score is. I didn’t have one. I didn’t care. I finished the drink and went to bed.

(Chandler lived in L.A. and most of his novels took place in/around the city. If you haven’t read Chandler’s books put down the internet and go read them. It’s great stuff!)
